Bringing Happiness to the Holidays: Be Kind

Acts of kindness are performed in many different ways. Remember, generosity does not have a price tag but has value. So many times I hear people say, “I would like to do something but I cannot afford it” or “I just don’t have any spare time in my schedule.” There is always a way to give.

Spread kindness and give back

Here are a few ideas for simple ways to help others, create smiles, and spread kindness. After all, there’s something quite wonderful about making other people happy.

  • Smile at a stranger

  • Put change in an expired parking meter

  • Hold a door open for someone

  • If you are in a State that gets snow, surprise your neighbor and shovel for them

  • Collect books to give to a school or a shelter

  • Drop off dinner or groceries to an elderly friend or neighbor

  • Mentor someone, a child or an adult

  • Buy hats, scarves gloves from local thrift store launder them and donate to church, shelter or charity

  • Talk to older adults and listen to their life stories

  • Give a stranger a sincere compliment

  • Give a caregiver an hour or two break from their daily responsibilities

  • Sell something online and give the proceeds to charity

  • Use your air miles for someone who cannot afford to make it home for the holidays

  • Offer to babysit for a single Mom or Dad

  • Run an errand for a busy friend

  • Donate your event tickets to someone who could not afford to go

  • Bake holiday meal or treats for a family in need

  • Gather homemade, recycled or reclaimed Christmas decorations and give to a shelter or a family in need

  • Offer to take a shift for a worthy co-worker so that they can spend it with their children

  • Send Christmas cards to Soldiers who cannot be home with their families
